The attached contract is for a design and engineering contract between the City of Mobile and Volkert, Inc. for Broad St Phase 4- Dr. MLK Avenue from Butchers Lane to Beauregard Street. An original contract was adopted between the City of Mobile and the Alabama Department of Transportation, resolution 31-429, on 25th July, 2017. This included funds, provided and administered by ALDOT, for preliminary engineering services for Broad St phases I-II, Ill and IV. Volkert Inc was chosen for this work. Preliminary plans, studies and surveys were initially completed for phase IV. During the course of construction for Phase I-II, several unknown issues were encountered that required design changes, along with contract time extensions and additional CE&I, that led to all of ALDOT's commitment being expended. Since Volkert, Inc. had provided all design work to date for the Broad St project phases, Volkert, Inc was chosen, with the ALDOT approval, to continue engineering services for the remainder of the design for phase IV. This maintains all work accomplished to date, saving design time and minimizing cost.

This project is the next phase of the TIGER Grant project. The scope of this project includes resurfacing and striping, replacement of sidewalks, curb and gutter and inlets, as well as signal and pedestrian lighting upgrades along with bike lanes.
